SU "Polaroid" **Trigger Warning** Young Lars & Ronaldo - Horror Club Original Concept Art

I was a storyboard artist and writer on Steven Universe.  

This is concept art I made for the episode Beach City Horror Club,  when I was working out the history between Lars and Ronaldo.

One thing that was important to me here was that I thought we had the opportunity to depict a person (Lars) as someone who had been struggling with depression and mental illness since a very young age. 

Unfortunate, though it is, children can and do struggle with painful realities. It's only exacerbated by the isolation provided by television/media, which often depicts childhood as something pristine, devoid of the hardships and heaviness that face an adult life. 

Not true though. 

A lot of us know. That's not true.
